Project Selection- My decision

I have decided to do the magazine, primarily because I am working alone and not with a group so as I mentioned before it would be too challenging. I have more experience with print media than I do with film so I feel that I would be stronger in the making of the magazine. To be perfectly honest the workload was the deciding factor for me. Combined with my other AICE classes, two jobs, and college prep the film project is a little daunting.       I already have some ideas for the article I will be writing. I live in a beach town that thrives off  tourism so I could do a travel or even a retirement magazine. We also have a large art community that I could focus on. Ultimately the magazine choice offers versatility, practicality, and creativity while the film option does not (other than creativity of course).

Project Selection- Film

I have always had a great appreciation for the creative process involved in film-making. This option offers a great deal of freedom to explore different themes such as philosophy, morality, existentialism, etc. Film is a true form of art for which I have a great interest in, so if I were to make my own, I would truly enjoy doing it. I don't think I can say the same for the magazine.      However, I am planning on doing my project alone, and with the film option this could be very challenging, perhaps too challenging. Furthermore, the film project requires a lot of materials, resources, people, production, etc. Overall, in a perfect world, I would love to do the film but practicality is a huge factor.

Project Selection- Magazine

I have always taken an interest in print journalism because I enjoy writing technically and informatively. Writers in journalism are constantly learning new things about various topics, something that I find intriguing. In class we watched All the President's Men which highlighted the thrill of print journalism, this has since given me a different perspective on the field. In the HBO series, The Newsroom, it shows the importance and influence that journalism has on society as a whole.       In doing the magazine, I would be able to show my skills in writing and photography as well. This project would also be really interesting in the sense that I have the freedom to write about something I personally care about or have vested interest in. There are a lot of topics I'd like to investigate within my community, making this option a very appealing one.
